L&A Apartment - Bucharest, Romania

Located in a new compound in the north side of Bucharest. this is an apartment that welcomes new and fresh beginnings. It was designed for a newlywed couple in their 30’s. Their life goes on a fast pace rhythm and L&A often use their home as if it were a magical Rubik’s cube: from a working space or place of gathering with friends near a bar backed with laughter and drinks, everything must become possible in a few minutes. So, they wanted a spacious living room that can accommodate these facilities: working from home, playing board games with friends, dinner with the extended family but also binge-watching on Netflix. They both have a thing for elegant, balanced textures and natural materials. This was the “ground 0” from where we started the elevator of creativity to an apartment that must gain points at being versatile, yet easy to use.

The living room is the central piece of the apartment. We managed to create several mini spaces inside it. Starting from the kitchen that blends into the living room with the help of an island that serves for cooking but also for pleasant breakfasts enjoying the sunrays wrapping the space in the mornings. Next to the kitchen there is a banquette that can serve as a reading corner and as a place for dinner. Wrapped around the walls we added some invisible textured drawers. The new developments of the city come with an acute lack of storage so we had to become creative and use every single opportunity to create storage but to keep the space feel uncluttered by furniture. The materials used are textured wooden panels painted in off-white, pale blue colour with a bit of green(duck egg colour) for the kitchen, doubled by soft beige fabrics for the furniture. The banquette and the tv stand are made of a combination between oak and a dark painted metal for the frame.

The office is also kept in the same colour palette blending white and gray textures to keep the storage hidden.

The bedroom is meant to be a settled and relaxing space using warm colours by adding a soft colour accent where the bed is placed.

The most challenging part was to transform the living room into a multifunction space and create a soft yet elegant feel with the help of textures.
