CardioDerm Clinic - Bucharest, Romania

CardioDerm Clinic is a 405 m² cardiology and dermatology facility situated right in the heart of Bucharest, facing Victoriei Square. It features six consultation and treatment rooms, two operating rooms, two patient rooms, as well as additional facilities including, a relaxing waiting space.

Shapes, materials, lighting, and colors evoke emotions in the human beings who use a space, whether it is interior or exterior.

Neuroarchitecture is a field that explores how the architectural design of spaces can influence the mental and emotional health of individuals. By applying basic principles of neuroarchitecture we have an opportunity to alleviate the usual pressure of time spent inside the doctor's office and to offer the patient more than just a fixed-duration treatment, namely, a relaxing and pleasant experience.

In the case of clinics and hospitals dealing with more serious and severe problems, there is a trend to make the space (offices, operating rooms, patient rooms, as well as the adjoining gardens) more open and warm so that all these elements can accelerate the physical and emotional recovery of patients.

It is important to "humanize " the medical industry and place the patient in the center because this approach is a determining factor in the well-being of patients.

By entering a place that aesthetically integrates elements that make them feel comfortable, relaxed, and, why not, healthier, the patient experiences a "well-being" from the moment they enter the clinic until the moment they leave, at the end of the treatment.

As a particular touch on the layout, we placed the doctor’s desk to the side walls of the cabinet. Traditionally doctor’s desk is located in the middle of the cabinet and patient’s bed is located on the side walls. After analyzing different ways to make the communication doctor-patient more relaxed, placing the patient’s bed in the middle and the doctor’s desk on the side was one strategy to use.

One of the main elements of the clinics design esthetics is the use of indirect and ambiental lighting in order to make the patient feel comfortable. Light washed textured walls, LED screen panels, floating wooden panels are defining the interior of the clinic.

In terms of shapes, the waiting and reception area is using organic shapes for the furniture, suggesting the feeling of nature.

Overall we created a space that is suggesting the use nature and it’s tranquility, alongside with a sterile touch that reminds the patient that the environment is still a healthcare facility.
