Eccentricity and fantasy

The Apartment - Beijing, China

This penthouse is connecting together 12 apartments that spread over the two last floors of the building. Located in the vibrant Sanlitun area, this 1500 sqm (16,146 sqft) apartment features an extra-ordinary décor that pays homage to the client’s eccentric personality.

Each space tells a different story.

The entrance is like a portal connecting the busy outdoor Beijing with this newly created fantasy world. There is an optical illusion that starts on purpose in the “portal”, so the space becomes psychedelic and the guest starts forgetting about the outside world. From the entrance the guest is guided through the main hall where the statement is a sculptural spiral staircase, a characteristic detail found in Dariel Studio’s work. The staircase is the center of the penthouse connecting all the spaces both vertical and horizontal. This project is a clear homage to the extravagance of post-modernism.

If the style is extravagant, the master plan of the apartment answers the client’s needs and requirements. While the first floor resumes the public functions of the apartment – entrance, living room, dining room, kitchen, guest bedrooms/ bathrooms, kids playground and art display area - the second floor accommodates more private and intimate ones – master bedroom/ bathroom, kids bedrooms/bathrooms, family area, dressing room and study. Each space itself and the way they related to one another were thought and designed in collaboration with a Fengshui master to ensure smooth flow and harmony.
